Windows session login settings

    With normal installation proccedure, you should have already configured Window session login during robot's installation. But if you skipped that step or you need to change it later on, it is still possible.

    When you set your robots' Daily reboot mode or On command reboot mode to "Hard" or "Session", you will need to configurer sessions' login in order to allow robots to reconnect to the functional Windows session.

    Note: Please make sure the login and password are correct. Otherwise the robot could not open the Windows session after its daily reboot (or after receiving a reboot command from NMC interface)
    Tips: In"Soft" or "None" mode, a robot will not quit the Windows session it uses. If you have strict security policy which force every login to change regularly its password, you may configure your robots to Soft or None reboot mode to avoid changing password for each robot every time.
    1. For Robot 7.5.1

    You may use one of the following two methods to configure Windows session login and password.

    1.1 Use ACCMGR.EXE

    The way to change the autologon account is to use access manager tool (ACCMGR.EXE) which uses NRM service to set up the account in registry key.

    You may find the tool in <Install_dir>\EXE\ACCMGR.EXE.

    The access manager tool in 751CU13 saves the DefaultUserName / DefaultDomainName and AutoAdminLogon entries in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" and the DefaultPassword entry in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY\Policy\Secrets\DefaultPassword" when you clic on OK and also if the credentials are OK.

    Otherwise, in log console you will find error like:

    17:26:20.882 ERR:NTBSVC:NTBSVCMAIN:1475:1280.abc::Set auto logon\: invalid args 'toto@titi'.

    1.2 Use PowerShell command

    Set AutoLogon with PowerShell command:

    Set-ItemProperty -Path 'registry::HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon' -Name DefaultUserName -Value "Administrator"
    Set-ItemProperty -Path 'registry::HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon' -Name DefaultDomainName -Value "Lab"
    Set-ItemProperty -Path 'registry::HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon' -Name AutoAdminLogon -Value 1
    Set-ItemProperty -Path 'registry::HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon' -Name ForceAutoLogon -Value 1
    Which equals to (Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00):
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

    Tips: If both methods are used to set Autologon, the unencrypted one will be used (Method 1.2). For security reasons, you may use this free tool to set Autologon without letting the password exposed in the registry.

    2. For Robot 7.6.0

    You may use one of the following two tools to configure Windows session login and password.

    2.1 Use Robot Settings (Paramètre Robot in French)

    This tool is mainly used for normal 7.6.0 Robots. You could find it in Start Menu -> Newtest -> Robot Settings.

    2.2 Session Manager (Gestionnaire de session in French)

    This tool is mainly used for Session mode robots. One of the advantages of this tool is that you could configure screen resolution of the session. This could help prevent RDP or other remote connection from modifying robot's screen resolution.

    You may find it in Start Menu -> Newtest -> Session Manager.
